Award for UKFD laminate floors

A prestigious award has marked the start of the year for UK Flooring Direct, where the next twelve months is expected to be just as successful.

The Series Laminate range won an exclusive award in the Tomorrow’s Flooring Product Awards 2012 after competing with other laminate ranges for first place.

Series was described as a laminate range which combines, ‘style, quality and value’ and was praised for versatility as it can be used in the home or commercial settings.

The range is only available through UK Flooring Direct and includes a fantastic variety of shades and styles and good value prices.

Each product is simple to install through innovative click system technology and there are a selection of widths and thicknesses to suit any preference.

The flooring retailer ended 2011 with a place on The Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100 for the second year running and can now start 2012 with the acclaimed laminate award.

Awards were given to 50 recipients for standing out from the crowd over the course of 2011, although the overall winner will not be chosen until April.

Steady flooring sales for 2011

Despite dire economic news throughout 2011, new figures reveal that it was actually a relatively stable year for wood flooring purchases across Europe.

Sales on the high street were certainly hit hard throughout the last year and the flooring industry was certainly hit hard by the declining sales figures.

Despite the gloomy news we’ve all heard there is a positive to take from the situation as members at DOMOTEX in Hannover suggested that, compared to 2010 it was actually a stable year.

This is despite constant changes in the economy across Europe in general, and there was even market increase in some countries including Germany and Sweden.

There were still several flooring businesses which could not cope with the strain as several announced that they had gone in to administration and others made significant cutbacks.

However, it is certainly good news that, far from the plummeting sales figures expected, the year was reasonably balanced in the flooring sector.

With recent reports of a possible double-dip recession flooring suppliers and other retailers will be hoping that this year figures maintain the stability of last year.

What’s The Best Basement Flooring?

If shopping for a basement floor, you now have a lot of options that weren’t always available to you. Choosing the right floor for a basement is almost harder than it was, because now there’s so much more from which to choose. Many assume that laminate flooring is the best way to go for a basement. And laminate floors are great for basements, but they’re certainly not the only way to go. If budget is a concern and you’re installing a basement floor yourself, you might think it’s the least expensive option. However, you’d be amazed at the online flooring deals you can find on hardwood flooring, bamboo flooring and even vinyl planks. If you want hardwood in the basement, look around. You can find engineered hardwood fl;oors, even click hardwood floors for considerably lower than you might expect. Solid hardwood floors aren’t recommended for basements, and though there are solid wood floors you can install in basements, today’s engineered wood floors are durable, beautiful and just plain better for hardwood installations on concrete slabs. Another option is a new type of flooring that has a recycled HDF core and a veneer of real wood or bamboo. This click engineered HDF core flooring [...]

The Best DIY Bathroom Floor

When shopping for a bathroom floor, you have more options today then you’ve had in the past. The old standbys are still available, but now you have something even better. Long has ceramic tile or sheet vinyl been the choice for bathrooms and many even install laminate floors in the bath. However, laminate floors aren’t the best choice, especially in bathrooms with showers or bathtubs. It’s not just the moisture that can spill out of the tub, but the moisture that permeates the air when you take a hot shower or bath. That’s why many choose ceramic tile for the bathroom, but these floors also leave a lot to be desired. They are cold, hard, not the easiest to clean and the grout can become discolored over time. While the coldness issue can be addressed with radiant heating, it significantly increases the cost and if you ever have a problem with the heating underneath the floor, it’s not an easy fix and usually you can tell when a tile has been replaced. And replacing the tile is exactly what will have to be done. Many choose sheet vinyl flooring because it’s not as cold as tile, easier to clean and [...]

Strand Woven Bamboo: The Best Floor For An Office

If you’re shopping for new flooring for the office there are more things to consider than the floor’s durability. The type of floor you choose says a lot about your company and the right one can make a lasting impression on the people you want to impress. You might just be looking for a durable, yet fashionable floor that you don’t have to replace, is easy to maintain and provides as much function as it does decorator appeal. Or, you could be looking for all of the above, but you also want a conversation piece and something that will make a statement about your company. If this sounds like you, then strand woven bamboo flooring is the optimal choice. First, bamboo is one of the greenest floors out there, and that can be important to prospective customers. In fact, no one will condemn your choice for choosing a green floor like stranded bamboo, regardless of whether or not they take active steps to promote environmental friendliness. A strand woven bamboo floor gives you a story to tell and not just something on which you walk. Strand woven bamboo is made when the natural bamboo is shredded into strips and then [...]

Exotic Engineered Hardwood Floors: The Best Of Both Worlds

Exotic hardwood flooring stirs the soul and inspires all sorts of possibilities. There is just something about exotic wood floors that we love to have in our homes, and if we could, we’d install it throughout our homes.  Most would never dream of that possibility, but exotic engineered flooring can make that dream come true. Whether it’s Brazilian Cherry flooring, Tigerwood flooring or any of the various types of exotic wood flooring, the wood is rarer, harder to come by and comes at an additional cost than more common, domestic hardwoods. The very word “exotic” tells us that it’s a luxury and that we will likely have to pay more. And while it does come at a premium, you can use less of it, keeping the cost lower. Exotic engineered hardwood floors use a veneer of exotic wood over a multi-ply construction of wood. Think of plywood, but the top layer being stained and finished. There are many advantages to this, from having to use less of the premium, more expensive wood to it allowing you to install it in more areas for your home. Because hardwood flooring is porous, it absorbs moisture from the air or the subfloor underneath. [...]
