Let's talk flooring!

This LM engineered hickory I just installed had this through .....oh about 80% of the planks. Is this considered normal?

I like Kevin's answer. These days it's hard to tell if the product is intended to look that way or the man is just blowing it.
prefinished floors can be filled a few diffrent ways just like on a jobsite. some manufactures full grain fill and some partially fill and then you have the way hickory finishes out compared to how oak will. The lm flooring stuff I have sold in the past has been 100% filled but I know Lm privaqte lables a bunch of product under diffrent names and in a effort to lower cost and give a slightly diffrent look thay are only partially filled dependant on the product. Centurys prefinished used to be the same way, it looks like it could use another coat imo but they claim thats how they want it to look (not so plastic) is the explanation I reciveded long ago.
I actually like Century's new finish "look" and I disagree that It looks like it needs another coat. What I don't like about century's " NEW LOOK" is that anyone who has their previous product is pretty much shit out of luck finding product to match. Even though they still sell it as " Western woodland, PrarieWheat, or Ozark Autumn the " New Look" stain is undeniably different as well as the sheen and overall appearence. I just found this out doing a repair on some Prariewheat that I installed in 2006. The other disadvantage is the scotchguard coating which I am being told can't be recoated. So keep your floorsanding skills honed.......
Just saw a Shaw 6 in prefinished distressed 3/4 solid that looked great. Pretty sure it had that scotchguard on it.
Sorry,i was refeering about the line before the scotchgaurd switch. It used to be full of open grain and what was so weird is that Iasked about it once at a trade show andI got some other answer, theguy at the show said it was due to the type of drum head thats on the panel sander. apparently just like a big machines drum there are diffrent densitys to them that will effect the way the floor finishes out.
I've installed quite a bit of Century flooring and don't recall much of any "pitting" that Stephen is showing with his flooring nor what I've seen with this Cumaru project that I had recently. Makes some sense in regards to how a species will sand in comparision to Drum make up but I'd be willing to bet that there is more going on here than just the Drum's density.
