Let's talk flooring!

See the mismatch? I found out today that the industry standard is 1/8" mismatch before it is considered a defect.  I ended up hand matching the whole job to make it look decent.

Is there a question in there Melvin? Every laminate of this nature that I've seen looks the same....

I very seldom run into laminates where they are off that far. Had one with Pergo a few years back and they paid me to match the planks to where it looks acceptable. Not anything that is that noticeable anyway, this really jumped out at you when you looked at the floor.

Are you talking about grain or what I just noticed in the "Faux" board edge?

What I mean is the two center patterns are offset to each other they don't line up. I'm not talking about the grain match, I trying to say the width of the boards appear as if they are not the same.

That's what I meant, it's like you have a 2-1/4 board lining up with a 2-1/8 board within the pattern. I had the same type of issue with the Quick-lock stone tile pattern that i just installed which is a little easier to disquise due to the "faux" grout lines

I seen that with grout lines too, I very seldom run into this on the wood planks, this is
Columbia laminate, this has been the most trouble free laminate for me. I just was not aware that it has to be more than an 1/8" before they consider it a problem.

Really? LOL

You'd think that from a manufacturing angle that they'd be able to line their photos up with better accuracy. It's much like wood grading which has seen a lower standard accepted over the years, soon you'll need more than 3/8 and #1 common flooring will become Select......go figure

Ten years ago I had a Pergo floor I had hand matched and they paid me $250 for making it work.

Some of these planks were more than an 1/8" but the job was just too small to make an issue of it, would have cost me more in time lost than it would have been worth.

I've had this happen to me too Melvin. That was a Wilsonart Estate Plus and when I called them they stated to me that they intend it to be that way...... something about the overall appearance and blending more without patterns showing.

I have some photos here ..... http://picasaweb.google.com/jwt253/WilsonartPatternOutOfRegister#
Jerome's look worse on the offset, it's remarkable what gets past "quality control"
Melvin, problem is they make their own standards. Unless it is in here. Where did you get your info?

Wow! Jerry did the customer accept that? I would be peeved if it was my house.

Stephen, that is what the store told me the Columbia rep stated, somebody may be feeding a line of bull who knows anymore. If I would not have been able to get most of the floor to my satisfaction I would have called the customer and let them fight it out with the store.

I skimmed the product standards pages I didn't catch anything about "pattern out of register related".

I am thinking it's kind of a unwritten rule like "lets see if we can get by with this" type thing.

You know I always say this business is like a game of Russian Roulette you never know what is going to get you.
