Let's talk flooring!

Anyone out there think floor covering inspectors should be properly licensed like home inspection services in your state? That is if they are required to be.

Be it known there is a national certification program for home inspectors.

Why, why not?

Upside will get rid of some inspectors, down side more fees to pay with out any kind of return on the investment.
Their is also the guys that will continue to work and not be licensed, there are several guys I know that do home inspections and they are not licensed and have no intention of becoming licensed.
And yeah I know, you can hope they get caught but the bottom line is there are 2 many of them to catch them all, and maybe 1 new guy that goes thru one of the "schools" for every 10 will do the right thing.
To be honest, it just another attempt at the government to get into your pocket. If it was enforced it could be a good thing.
They have no intention/desire to make an issue of the whole thing, occasionally, they will try to make an example of someone, but it will go no further than that. I bet that in most cases a palmed C note will get them to look the other way., or a friend with a contractors license will just let you work under his license for a few bucks/some consulting/inspection help. Their are ways around everything, and the rules are written so that their cronies can bypass them when needed. More waste of time and money, when there are more important things that need doing. Like putting more cops on the street, or in the schools to stop the drugs, getting folks back to work, etc etc etc.
When our government decides to finally put the working American first, and become fiscally responsible then we can work on the small things.
Well Woodie I have to be licensed, why not someone thats supposed to be more educated than I? One that can tell me I have done my job correctly or did something wrong. Why would anyone court or manufacture take some guys word that passed some crappy test, or was just given a certification because he is a buddy?

As you know the inspection community's policing of themselves is non existent and horribly managed.

My contractors fees pay for lots of stuff like teachers etc.
I agree to the policing of the industry itself,
I do not see how this would correct the issue, at least here, this would add another layer of corruption to the already questionable ethics of some of the industry itself and that is not the answer.
Here the installers do not have to be licensed, and most of the contractors are not licensed either. Like I said, they have no intention nor the money to enforce the existing requirements let alone any additional ones.
I have seen builders pay the city inspectors so how will this change things?
Overall the concept is very good but it has no teeth so to speak and is not enforceable in the real world. So again why get into our pockets even more if that is the only reason to have licensing?
Do you as a consumer get to sue the state for allowing non licensed people to operate businesses, since it is the states job to enforce the laws? We all know that those unlicensed have no insurance and in most cases are living from job to job, and have nothing to lose by not being licensed or insured. so where does that leave the consumer, holding the bag cause they hiredthe cheaper guy, and the law didnt do its job cause the guy was allowed to work due to the state not enforceing the laws. Its a vicious circle and will not be broken in our lifetime.
The issue needs to start with consumers, who require quality not cheaper prices, as long as the market is driven by the" cheaper the better" than this is a moot issue and serves as another way to get into the pockets of hard working people that are foolish enough to believe that the government is looking out for our best interest.
The Skinny from the AZROC is that there is a separate technical board that certifies ppl like engineers, architects, surveyors and yes even home inspectors in AZ.

I'm thinking flooring inspectors would and should fall into that catagory.

History tells us the home inspectors associations pressed hard for legislation themselves and got a bill passed requiring home inspectors to be dually licensed and certified by the state.....that it was getting to the point that any yahoo could have a card made and call himself a home inspector without having been in the trade and actually having hands on experience.

Go figure! You think these guys will do that on their own?
