Let's talk flooring!

In the winter I actually enjoy going out and splitting wood for the fireplace when storms come through the Old Pueblo. You know how the little woman likes to see her macho man splittin wood. :))

This afternoon as yet another storm came pounding through these parts I was out splitting more hardwood and found this. What happen to this wood as it grew?

Anyonje know the species as well?

Thats a distinct possiblilty. But you see where the trunk is splitting into two seperate limbs? It could have been done intentionally or just maybe froze the tip of the shoot. But it looks like it kept trying to grow straight up and could not get it together. And then some bark formed and then it rejoined and most likely seperated into two limbs.

The dark lines are________?

It's that Pa-con wood as they call it down south.

The pinkish part is due to what? Where's all them wood science guys when you need them. ;)
