So....wanted to start this because if you have been following posts at the inspectors forum you may have picked up on the fact many inspectors don't know what the fudge they are doing. Read these threads:

First and foremost.....say something happens to a job you did. You think it is anything but your problem. Could be maintenance, could be manufacturing, could be site conditions. If it's an easy fix, fix it and walk away. Take care fo your client. However if you think this may be a problem that might screw up the whole job and it's not your fault...you followed all the giudeleines to a T, by all means ask the manufacture for an inspection especially if the enduser is threatening to sue you or call the local contractors board.
But...lots of inspectors feel that in order to get work they need to blame anyone but the manufacturer. Especially the ones who work for brokers, even nwfa inspectors as quite a few have absolutely NO installation experience and only passed a test given manuals beforehand. Psssst...they get paid by the manufactures or a middle man broker who also gets paid by the manufacturer....intimidates the green inspector to write what they want and even yes...change the reports to suite the manufacturer.
OK, next you are allowed to request a second inspection for free. Or you can go out and find your own inspector. I feel if your absolutely certain this first inspector don't know squat and did not cite industry standards in his report or you do not think the ones cited apply....I do not suggest you get a second inspection. They could just send out another hired gun inspector and then you will have to defend your self against two inspectors.
I say take the guy to court. Get a good lawyer who specializes in construction law, even going so far as calling ALL the lawyers in town who do construction law and ask for a free initial consultation, that way all those lawyers you talked to cannot take the case for the enduser or inspector because they have talked to you about the case already. OUCH!
Of course make certain this is not your fault to begin with...duh.
Hopefully others will pitch in here. This might be a really long thread.
FYI...even some industry standards are suspect. Why? Because there is no scientific proof to back them up as explained in the last link posted above.
