Let's talk flooring!

So the game plan is to do the first pass in 40, both machines then ....(ugh) trowel fill the entire floor??  Is this really how you do these?  I was planning on taking most of the morning and spot setting...  I saw Everett setting every nail regardless..  This job is 2500+ sq feet.  I can still see most of the nails still have filler in them from the last guy.    So just do like Dale does on every job huh?  I was thinking of thinning down some Woodwise with water and filling the entire floor...

Chris,

Even though you see most of the nail holes still have filler in them, it's what they look like AFTER the sander has made a pass or two across the floor. Do a major floor crawl after you rough the floor off, then yes trowel fill the entire floor but don't thin down an already shit filler like Woodwise.....go right from the tub as is. Any nails that appear the rest of the way can be taken care of as they become apparent, keep a nail set in your pocket. Anything after that take care of between coats of finish either by setting/ spot filling or artist brush/ liquitex paint.

Have fun.......
Hahaha I was in the middle of replying to this over on v.00001 when I thought maybe he'd posted it here too... LOL

No, if you go back and look again I wasn't setting every nail though it may have seemed like it. Regardless of trowel filling(which I do now and am a proponent of) I have always run through and set most of the nails before even the first sander pass, then after (for instance) 36BM and 60BM I go through and set any nail at or near the surface. So in that scenario that's 3 waves of nail setting. Just part of it IMO.
fast, trowel filling is one of the fastest procedures you can do on a floor. why so anti? you can always tell the homeowner that the floor is to "thin" to set any of the nails.... and just leave all the shiners.... dont thin the woodwise but mix it with a low speed drill....
Just don't use a waterbase sealer if you're going to leave shiners, especially if you T-bar.......
this job is going well.. only saw about 5% of the nails after the rough cut. took me about 5 minutes on avg per room to set.. pics soon!
Chris fill it after your second coat as I do. Go to HD and get a Gum trowel (tile area) and trowel the WW on right from the tub after your second coat of finish. Have a wet towel and a dry towel to clean up after you trowel it. Screen/tac then put on final coat. Been doing facenailed floors this way the last 5 times and have been coming out great. Really does not take that much time to do + that gum trowel doesn't hurt the finish and you can be sure all the nails are set and will not show up later in the sanding process.
