Let's talk flooring!

Do you avoid it all together or do some of you do it when needed.  Heard alot of horror stories over the years and know some guys who just gave up on it.. Just curious..

Spent 15 yrs installing gym floors with nothing but a tablesaw.......

Btw: VerMeister Gap filler works well ;) LOL
When I was doing siding repairs on my house last summer I was using our spare table saw for all my cuts, compound miters, rips, you name it. All the main tools were at the shop in use so it was all I had. But that was finger jointed cedar clapboards, thin and soft, dunno if I'd have liked it so much if I was cutting 3/4" oak. Also it had a combo blade on it so that probably made it better and wouldn't have been very good for rips on oak flooring either. But it did work and perfectly might I add...

LMAO, I was thinking the same thing about the VM filler...
You use it for everyday filling or gaps over 1/4 or so...cmon get specific hommie... ;)
I started with a skil saw and a cheap table saw from sears. Now I have a cheap table saw from sears. lol

But seriously, why risk the kickback when yu can simply use a SCMS?
When I started all we had was a Skil saw and a hand saw
Bill,

I used to work with an old-timer who ripped all his flooring with a Circular saw, scared the sheot out of me each time he did, I always thought we'd be transporting him to an emergency room.... But he had done it since he started doing floors.

I do agree with Stephen about kickback risk, yet as long as you're careful and don't get nonchalant you can do all your cuts with the TS but if you have a MS then why?
Well when I started all we had was a hachet and a sledge. LOL Seriously though I do often still lay 5/16" with a back saw. If it's sharp it is faster than the MS cuz you can cut in the boards right there over your hammer head then flip the board so the factory edges meet.
Well we started out with a piece of bedrock and a slab of shale!!!!!!! ;)

Btw: I'd take you up on the BS Vs the MS anyday, I'm nostalgic as the next guy but your BS is BS LOL
I would really enjoy the challenge, especially opening your eyes of how and why it can be faster when laying 5/16" the right way!! You would have to think outside the box on this one fella. lol I willl explain to you why and how this is faster in DC I don't feel like typing a book right now. Then you can explain to all the other toys in misfit land that Groover was right and you were wro wro wrong!! LOL
BTW just so you know, in the sixties one man was to lay with a back saw and hatchet for rips 600 ft laid and nailed with the Cavanaugh per day.
Btw: Who { Not you } got pissed at me for advocating a new tools besides a no longer made Cav to install 5/16?
Open your mind friend! I was using it a a referance to how fast a BS is, You caint argue with the results, yes I do use the senco 15g for it now that wasn't the point. I will explain it to you in person and open your eyes.

A sharp back will cut 5/16" in 3 back and fourth swips. No it is not faster then the MS for the cut itself but...I will explain the rest later.
