Let's talk flooring!

Hey yall

Im looking for input on replacing my KT drum.  I tore the drum up, epoxied it for a temp fix and now I have to replace it.  I have the new one but Im to cheap for the distributor to change it out. They tell me that they would do it for me but if they find anything else, they will charge me the going rate.  What does that tell you?   They are going to find fictional problems. Anyway, it looks like just one bolt I can take off and install with an impact gun.  Any other suggestions prior to installation?

Wow and I thought that Stephen and Everett were paranoid....LOL

A drum puller { roughly $90 } will help get that stubborn drum off the shaft and limit any damage you cause to the shaft hacking it off ;)

Call me stubborn but I just dont want to spend the money.  Anyway, ill try it.  If I cant get it off with out fucking it up, Ill just send it out.
The hummel manual says to beat on a board behind the drum to get it off. I used to worry about damaging the bearings in that part but that's what they say to do... :shrugs: I've noticed that after taking it off to vac the inside out every job it comes off easily by hand with only a slight wiggle needed sometimes to get it off.
Everett is spot on with his advice.  I have a KT and Hummel and both are easy to take drum off.
Well i had the drum replaced 2 weeks ago.  Did my first job with it.  IT was so far our of balance, I shit.  I was pissed.  Chatter marks and it was digging on one side. So I sent it back.  The maker of the drum, whom I don't want to say, (USS) is sending another drum to replace the fucked up one.  Now Ill get it back in about 3 days.  Who is going to reimburse me with lost and rescheduled jobs?  No one.  Just wanted to share.
Pappa chubb I was going to suggest calling us sander to get some advice about how to get the drum off. Joe in the machine shop is pretty knowledgeable.

Well here is an update on the sander.  Got the machine back the first time, uneven drum from us sander. And it screwed up the floor I was sanding.  Lets just say it wasnt a good day. Anyway send it back so the drum can be returned to us sander.  With the new drum installed, i try it out and now the upper roller is uneven caused by who ever shipped it strapping it down tightly on the adjustment spring and screwing that all up. I don't think I an win.

Wow, was looking into getting a new drum from USS...not now!  Geesh will pay the extra I guess to get it locally at the distributor which is significantly more but can't afford to have the same issues.  Did they eventually resolve everything ok?
Well the second drum was shit too.  Fucked up another floor with it.  Had to hard plate the shit out of it.  Anyway the only good thing is that US Sander sent my supplier a new drum taken off of a new sander for me.  NO charge.  Ill be using it tomorrow to see if it works right.  Hence, don't get a re manufactured drum.  Always get new.
