Let's talk flooring!

Got a job to look at we sanded bout 800 ft of hart pine a couple years ago at a house. The 3/4" floors were installed over sleepers with gypcrete and readiant heat. The bedrooms were carpeted and has radiant in gypcrete over ply. They want to install the same flooring from Goodwin in the bedrooms. Your mission should you choose to accept it is to suggest a way to do this. Don't know if engineered is acceptable. Float ply would reduce heat transfer. I will awaite your scientific response's

Why wouldn't engineered be acceptable?
John,
Don't know if it wouldn't, I just got a e-mail from the customer today. i know he would strongly prefer the solid. Just wanted to pick the brains of the crew to see if I am missing anything. Obvisouly I will suggest the engineered as a plan of attack but as I stated I wanted to bounce this off you studs first.
If this job is too tough for you, well you can just refer him to Colonial Flooring, LOL
I could do that Chief running mouth!! What's the number again 1-800-take-job-ak. LOL
I think with the gypcrete your only options are floating a 1" min. thick (2 layers 1/2") of ply and nailing down solid wood or glue down engineered. I don't think the floating ply would have that much less heat transfer than carpet and padding did. i would also love to know if there are other options.
"I don't think the floating ply would have that much less heat transfer than carpet and padding did." John, you don't think by adding a 1 3/4" of wood would creat less heat transfer than carpet?? One could also use a garden sprayer and spray the floor down while the heat is running, the first areas that will evaporate is where the tubes are. Mark out the loops and glue and screw 1"x 3" for sleepers. This idea is not without risk!
I was thinking more of re-bond carpet pad and a dense carpet - first thing that came to mind. Seems like it would insulate quite well but probably not as much as the wood. Of course, if you do 1 x 3 sleepers, now you have a 3/4" dead air space, which is more insulation (or lack of heat transfer). I love the idea of radiant, but it seems when you try to do wood with it, you are working at cross purposes because of the insulation value of wood. I know that glue down of solid wood is being done, but I haven't seen any info yet on the specifics (I do know it is a topic at the NWFA expo in 2 weeks).
glueing solid down is a pain in the ass but it is being done alot
True but I wouldn't want to do it over gypcrete.
I did glue a small 3/4 solid Cumaru hallway over concrete last fall along with 600 ft over ply. MVP and Bostiks Best.
sika mb primer (Epoxy) with their T-55 glue. i have done solid over gyp. many times. also concrete. very good system and it is fairly simple.
