Let's talk flooring!

I just installed some 3" Prefinished Brazilian Cherry with 6' L-shaped length of nosing at the basement steps. The Existing newel post and railing system was removed { Old Newel had no extended bottom post inserted thru sub floor to fasten to joist, just lag bolts hacked in thru the side of newel. The Newel that we are putting in it's place has a post, so my question is how or what would you recommend me using to bore a hole thru the flooring and subfloor to accept the post and let the Newel seat on top of the floor????

I'd have called you but I lost my previous cell awhile back with your number in that phone so I no longer have yours.....

Dan,

I've seen them and taken down railing systems that have used them and they are quite tight. Though in this case we chiseled the square outline of the Newel into the floor/nosing and finished that cut out with the Fein saw. Then we bored the hole into the subfloor/ joist to accept the dowelled end of the Newel, some Chemrex and slid her into the hole where she is tight and snug as a bug in a rug ;)
The Spindles that he wanted me to use were his originals that were still glued into a piece of Oak, we took a 7/8 hole saw to cutout around the 3/4 dowelled end so we had something to insert into the holes we drilled into the flooring and glued them in place.....Worked out well.
