Let's talk flooring!

What are you's guy's using? I use a 18gauge brad nailer. A local floor guy said he is using a headless pin nailer, 23gauge. Say's he don't have to putty. He use's Grex pin nailer one of few that can shoot 2" pins.

Stephen,

We have one of these

Great gun, it fires headed and headless pins....For pine shoe it works well but for hardwood shoe { Domestic and exotics } it's holding power doesn't have a longetivety factor and shoe can be knocked of fairly easy. Most shoe we use an 18g bostich brad nailer.
I use the 15g senco gun. When we take up shoe to nail back up later and it's been nailed with 18g, it's a real pain trying to denail it, the pliers end up just cutting most of 'em off instead of pulling them. Is this just no big deal? Why use 18g over 15g? Please educate me because if I am to make a switch I'm going to have to convince someone else... LOL
This is another instance the size does matter! It's all about the size of the hole. The tighter the better....I mean the smaller the better-er. Think about your doing naturea maple shou and filling a 15 g hole they stand out and ill only get wors over the years with cleaning.

Tell Gabe this is what the pro's do...LOL
So there's not enough of a difference in holding power between the 2 to outweigh the difference in the size of the hole is what you're saying? I have a feeling that will be the argument against 18g...

While we're at it, what about transition pieces/reducers? Are they any different given that they get walked on?
Groover, I have the grex gun, always have a problem with pins over 1 3/8. Works great for shoe mould though. Cadex makes a nice one aswell, it has a built in air blower which It seems there is one guy on this forum that gets his rocks off with this feature:)

Oooh Dale, you gonna take that from Geo? Are you guys breaking up? LOL

I just use me 18ga and putty, putty is my buddy, Or if the customer is painting then they putty. Mostly they are painting. But on door casing trim I use the monsterous 15ga cannon. :)
I'll tell you where my 23 ga. comes in handy, is all the tweaked out t-mouldings. I use it to top nail here and there to hold um tight while the adhesive is setting. You can't see them, and their like a darn wire,( they're not going to limit movement). On shoe...IMHO you cant beat it,( especially on stained).
Stephen,

If I really gave a sheot ;) LOL
Btw:

I went with Bostich over the air blower thingy because it had a pencil sharpener ;)
