Flooring Installer .com

Let's talk flooring!

I See that Charles Peterson is on the cover of September's Fine Home building doing a prefinished install edition with a Primatech roller-base nailer and choking down on the mallet, hasn't anyone told him that his back is at risk? Charles has some good advice about the importance of taking some care when installing a prefinished floor so that you aren't the one putting the first damage into the finished product much is common sense to use but we've all seen the questionable installs over the years that make us laugh ;)

A few tips that he suggests.......

On a cut off to restore a factory edge he uses a palm sander to create a bevel, a file does the same and is simpler to use. He uses a clear finish marker from Mohawk to dab the edge, I have a full assortment of Mohawks stain Markers to meet most color needs and burn in sticks for repairs as well.

Shows him using a Fein tool to undercut door casings with a scrap piece of flooring as a height gauge. We take that scrap piece of flooring and run it thru the table saw to allow for the blade thickness which makes for a more snug fit under those objects.

At obstructions like hearths he use cork strips to fill in the gap instead of a piece of trim which I hadn't thought of, usually use a bead of colored acrylic latex caulk.

Good article at any rate.....

How snug do you want it? You use 15lb felt doncha? Oh thats right your a non-believer.

I'm ususally gluing so I stick something under the wood to make up for the glue or it's always to tight.
Cause I don't want the toes of my boots to wear out. I don't use them with my regular tennis shoes...
Hell no, I don't wear those to work. ;) LOL
I've hunted high and low for a good marker set and thus far, nothing. Mohawk? who are they? Can I order from them online?
As to the Fein super and bosch fine cut, I've got 'em both. Haven't done much installing lately though. The cost of the bi-metal blades for Fein is a bit steep though I was able to buy bulk from cumi for just over $20 per blade.
Just got home with my Bosch Finecut. Can't wait to use it tomorrow. I saw Everett use the both the fine cut blade and the rough cut on that video?? Why was that? I got the rough cut blade as well. Was like 13 bucks with tax for the blade

Those multifunction tools seem to take to long plunging and plunging and plunging :) And I am sick of my crain undercut saws.

Norwood, you talking bout sammiches? I'm hungry!
Mohawks marker crayon set is made for cabinetry and yes you can buy online but the Taylor burn in ones are harder. There's lots of different clear gloss and matte finish pens out there.
Can someone Pleeeeaaasse overnight me a couple 3ft subs? Preferrably from Phiily or even NY. Got to be good ones with everything on'em.

I'l pay either in cactus or Ducats? Don't make me beg. lol
I'll take four large Italians...no four large Godfathers and four cheesesteaks. Thanks!
The God fathers are phenominal and the Cheesesteaks exquisite.......The Godfather should be done grilled as well ;)
