Let's talk flooring!

I See that Charles Peterson is on the cover of September's Fine Home building doing a prefinished install edition with a Primatech roller-base nailer and choking down on the mallet, hasn't anyone told him that his back is at risk? Charles has some good advice about the importance of taking some care when installing a prefinished floor so that you aren't the one putting the first damage into the finished product much is common sense to use but we've all seen the questionable installs over the years that make us laugh ;)

A few tips that he suggests.......

On a cut off to restore a factory edge he uses a palm sander to create a bevel, a file does the same and is simpler to use. He uses a clear finish marker from Mohawk to dab the edge, I have a full assortment of Mohawks stain Markers to meet most color needs and burn in sticks for repairs as well.

Shows him using a Fein tool to undercut door casings with a scrap piece of flooring as a height gauge. We take that scrap piece of flooring and run it thru the table saw to allow for the blade thickness which makes for a more snug fit under those objects.

At obstructions like hearths he use cork strips to fill in the gap instead of a piece of trim which I hadn't thought of, usually use a bead of colored acrylic latex caulk.

Good article at any rate.....
