Let's talk flooring!

One of the worst. The current 4-way stop count is 6, apparently these guys were bringing the wood in from the garage as they were installing it(which is when we first saw it). We are being subbed out by the painter just to sand the floor, she's going to do a tung oil finish on it. You name it, it's wrong- 1/8" gaps, the A/C still hasn't been turned on, terrible head joint spacing in addition to the 4-way stops, undercutting looks like it was done with a sawzall, thresholds and hearth are poorly done, among many other things.

I'd document all the bad work now so u don't get blamed for it.
From the video it seems to me that there are less than 5% milling defects present. And the butt joints that are very close to each other will go unnoticed because they will be under furnature. Trowel fill will take care of any gaps or openings. But let me ask you a few questions before I give my answer. When was it installed, what was the nailing schedule, who made the wood. How wide are they, how long are they. What color are the walls painted, what color is the tile, what color are the cabinates, How hot outside is it now, what is the humidity in the house at the time it was framed? Is it a finished basement, what kind of TV do they have in the house, whats the address??????
I was gonna say that the sliver cut off the board around the hearth border was my favorite until I saw the undercut of the door casings...LOL

Btw: Tell Gabe to wait til the video is shot before he makes such a racket! The nerve of some people.....;)
Amen..
Everett that last door thresh is a sweet one. I suppose they figure you can sand out their install errors. I see the pricks put the kitchen cabinets back in too.
Truline,
Back in? This house is new. I have no idea why they did the trim before installing the floor, but yeah, they're really hoping the trowel filling will hide all. lol

This is probably the first time any of these people have worked with Ipe, we keep getting these comments like "you could throw this wood in a lake and it wouldn't hurt it" or "this wood won't cup" and "well this wood isn't going to move, right?". So it's kind of frustrating.

And Nor,
With 6 of them total, it's too much of a coincidence, I think they did that on purpose. LOL
Did you have to clean that place before you started sanding or did they? There was alot of shit on the floor
We started to clean it all up then the painter showed up and did the rest...
Are you going to post a video of when you're done with sanding and finishing this floor?
Thanks.
Yes of course, usually I wait till it's completely done and edit together a video of the whole job from beginning to end. This was so good (or bad lol) that I wanted to get a pt 1 up as soon as I could. Only possible problem is that we're not doing the finishing so I'm gonna have to make a special trip out there to get the after video when she's done with it.
Ironwood tree; http://www.desertmuseum.org/programs/ifnm_ironwoodtree.php

Harder than mesquite and used for figurine carving mostly
This could explain it. You know how those ppl like to make up names for exotic trees.
