Let's talk flooring!

Is there any way to recognise asbestos mastic vs regular black mastic without testing? Also, is it true, if the vinyl tile is 9x9, then it's asbestos(VAT), and if it's 12x12 it's VCT? Thanks for the info in advance

Stephen, they were allowed to sell all existing stock. Some estimates are that it may have been sold into the early 90's. Some people think it was only the 9x9 tiles but as this link shows it was also in 12x12.

Well it won't let me post the link.

Cutback mastic had asbestos in it and the asbestops was stopped in the early 80's. I have heard of some 12 x12 having a really low asbestos content. Better to get it tested. Then decide from there instead of guessing. Floating floors are always a good alternative.
