Let's talk flooring!
CHALLENGE:
· Moisture remediation and leveling needed for new flooring installation.
· Operating room in a busy hospital could only be down for 7 days.
· Surrounding operating rooms would continue to function during the installation.
PROBLEM:
When new flooring was needed in an operating room at the busy Arroyo Grande Community Hospital in California, contractors called on ARDEX for a solution that would allow the operating room to be down for just 7 days. A smooth, level surface was required to accommodate sensitive medical equipment and gurney traffic. In addition, moisture testing revealed that the moisture vapors emitting from the concrete substrate exceeded the recommendations for the rubber flooring that would be installed.
Also, as surrounding operating rooms would continue to function, the project required a minimally disruptive installation process.
SOLUTION:
For moisture remediation, the contractor chose the ARDEX MC™ MOISTURE CONTROL SYSTEM, a two-part epoxy-based system that reduces moisture emissions to acceptable levels for finish floor coverings. The contractor then used ARDEX K 15â PREMIUM SELF-LEVELING UNDERLAYMENT to provide a smooth, flat surface for the rubber flooring installation.
The entire installation process for ARDEX MC and ARDEX K 15, including preparing the concrete via shot blasting, product application and curing, took just over 2 days. This allowed plenty of time for the finish flooring to be installed, and the operating room was fully functioning again within 7 days – on time and on budget!
