Let's talk flooring!

Just got off the phone with this lady who wanted Green flooring. Told her about cork, corkoleum, Marmoleum which I think are best even energy consumption wise. The Bamboo (wish we could grow it here) but of course she don't want to pay that much so then she starts talking about ceramic tile. Then proceeds to harp on me about all the fuel of shipping all that flooring overseas and yata yata yata.

I said, well ever see how much fuel it takes to fire ceramics and porcelain tile? Yea, might as well plant a fuel truck in your living room Ma'am.
Plus let us not forget how much energy it takes to make portland based cemetious products ie the thinset and grout. Not even to mention the mining of these basic ingredients.

So yeah, considering fuel consumption I think ceramics probably take the most fuel from factory to your floor of all floor coverings even if produced in the good ole USA,

OY, now my head hurts just thinking about it.

How bout some good old mud/clay tiles baked by solar energy from Mehico Ma'am?
